The Midwest Wedding Crashers: Kick-off the 2016 Wedding Show Season
Cheers to you! Aside from Pinterest and magazines, where else do you look for ideas when planning your big day? Wedding shows are a great place to get ideas and deals! We have been to over 10 wedding shows in the last year, but this was our first at a local winery. So, we kick off the 2016 wedding season with one amazing bridal show, “Weddings, Wine and Happily Ever After”!
It was, by far, the most enjoyable experience I have had attending a show. We have to give a big thumbs up to this bridal shows coordinators: Bleu Events, Serenity Valley Winery, BHive Events and The Ink Cafe LLC. Well done! Perhaps, the scenery and drinks had a lot to do with that, but the vendors were so top-notch that it was a toss up.
The giveaways from some incredible local businesses at really made it worth the visit for those getting married in the next year. Moonshadow Studios was giving away a $500 engagement photo session, Simple Solutions Fitness was giving away a free personal training package, Crystal L. Hair and Makeup gave away a free trial hair and make-up, and The Ink Cafe LLC gave away a $100 towards an invitation suite. We are proud to have the opportunity to break the news about the winners of the big giveaways from the bridal show! Keep reading to find out if you were one the lucky brides, but first… We wanted to give you a glimpse of the show in case you weren’t able to make it out.
Serenity Valley Winery is located between Columbia and Fulton. I truly believe it is a hidden gem that everyone needs to discover. The trees were in full bloom, the pond was a beautiful backdrop to the sun setting, the bridal suite was a dream, and the gazebo was picturesque. They are also owned by the kindest people – Regina and Lee Ruppert. They are always welcoming and easy going. We loved sampling all of their award winning wine and came home with our very own bottle of Spring Blossoms.
Serenity Valley has partnered with Bleu Events to offer on-site catering for all of their weddings. This makes an essential part of planning for your big day so delicious and easy! My husband and I were married outdoors; it was everything I dreamt of except for the fact that the location lacked catering services. We had to outsource catering and did not realize the importance of wait staff or bartenders. The result was that my mother-in-law and some other family members did not get a chance to eat. In hindsight, I always tell brides to go with a reputable catering company. At every wedding we have attended, Bleu Events has outdone itself in service and hospitality. This show was no exception!
We absolutely loved the set-up. There were two tents to show brides a glimpse of how their wedding would look after turning this peaceful vineyard into either a glitzy wedding or a wedding that embraces the earthy tone. Berry Good Tents provided the tents, and they held up well against the windy day. Tents seem to be best way to make sure that the Midwest weather does not rain on your parade.
Heather and Derrick from A-1 Party & Event Rental tastefully decorated each tent. I think it is really helpful for brides to see mock wedding receptions to get inspiration for their reception. I overheard several brides talking to A-1 about how impressed they were with their set-up. A-1 has the largest selection of linens locally, in a large variety of colors and fabrics. They also carry a comprehensive inventory of event rentals. Some of those items include tables, chairs, centerpieces, catering equipment, china, glassware, flatware, staging, A/V equipment, pipe & drape, and concession equipment. It is easy to see how A-1 Party & Events can help brides’ reception a dream come true.
Flowers are an important part of every wedding. Kent’s Florist added elegance and beauty to each of the tables. Their arrangements stand out in every wedding and they really made this wedding show come alive. I have heard many brides in the past appreciate the attentiveness to details that Kent provides. This was clearly evident in their displays.
Menus, place cards and table numbers by The Ink Cafe LLC gracefully adorned each place setting. The glitzy tent contained silver glittered place cards and the earthy tent had custom calligraphy place cards. The Ink Cafe specializes in branding events through paper goods. Several brides who attended were customers of The Ink Cafe and shared how their favorite part is how the small Columbia based business will address, stamp, and send out your invitations so the stress of planning their weddings are minimized. We also took some information on the calligraphy classes that they offer at Poppy’s. If you were looking to address your own wedding invitations, calligraphy would be such a great skill to learn. Whether you want something customized or to pick out a template from one of their many lines, The Ink Cafe is certain to deliver a quality product.
We also spent a significant time meeting with the wedding planner of BHive Events, Rachel Hollenbeck. We were fascinated about her passion for brides and their big day! Her company is named after her family’s honey business, and she had the cutest honey favors for us to take home. She comes highly recommended by her brides and goes above and beyond to help brides make their dreams a reality. The biggest benefit of a wedding planner is that they take the stress out of wedding planning to let you fully enjoy the engagement season and wedding day. Who doesn’t want that? Whether it is full wedding planning or day of planning, BHive events will create an event worth buzzing about!
We were very fortunate to have Catherine Rhodes Photography capture the day for us. Her pictures are always beyond perfect. As one of the vendors of the show, she was delighted to show brides how the elements of photography are one of the most important components of a wedding. Catherine comes with over six years of experience, has been highlighted in nation wide magazines such as June Bug. We highly recommend using her services and recommend that you book in advance because she books quickly.
A favorite aspect of this show was the representation of Missouri’s love for local breweries and distilleries. Among those present were Dog Master Distilleries and Craft Beer Cellar located in downtown Missouri. My husband was not shy about making a few rounds at their booths. The idea of having a cigar bar is trending now and I think brides should consider pairing those cigar bars with these local favorites.
There were plenty of tasty treats to go with our drinks and we especially loved connecting with Heather Masters from Masterful Treats. We walked away with a box full of scones, cookies and happy hearts. Heather does an amazing job creating a special niche in Columbia that is greatly needed. Her treats are perfect for Bridal Shower and her welcome baskets are perfect for out of town guests. We were definitely sweet on Masterful Treats.
One of my favorite videographers also made an appearance at the show and we would love the world know about Bussen Productions. We first heard Bussen Productions after they worked on all of the top-notch media videos for Log Boat Brewery. They have a unique way of filming weddings that will have you crying and laughing for years to come.
If you want a painted representation of your big day, you need to look no further! Cindy from TooRooster Artistry had a beautiful display of painted weddings that she had done. She even created a masterpiece of the show itself. Her talent is beyond belief and with in three hours she had a painting completely finished. What an incredible gift to give a bride!
Wedding receptions are one of the only times that you are able to host an extravagant party for all the people you love. From DJs to photo booths, you really want your guest to enjoy your big day as much as you do. J. Kelly Photo Booth had the cutest display with some really great props and Complete Weddings and Events entertained us the entire time with their musical flair.
We then headed to the bridal suite located inside a gorgeous two-story home on the Serenity Valley property. We were excited to meet Chrystal from Chrystal L. Hair and Makeup. She does an amazing job in many of the bridal photo shoots in town and had her work on display for brides to see. Making a bride feel beautiful inside and out is a gift that Chrystal exudes.
We captured a live model couple from Belle Mariée Bridal Boutique near the pond and we adored their wedding attire. Jessica Card, owner of Belle Mariée, shared with us that she travels to various markets in Dallas and Chicago to bring back wedding gowns and tuxedos that can’t be found anywhere else in town. They are unique, one-of-a-kind dresses and tuxes that make couples shine.
On our way out, a horse and carriage escorted us to our car. Now that’s service! To all of our engaged couples, we highly recommend attending a wedding show this season. It will inspire you, help you find some amazing vendors and you may even walk away with a giveaway just for attending!
